This kitchen project was a complete redesign to create a sleek, modern kitchen that reflected the client’s love for clean lines and functional elegance. By eliminating the old pantry setup and integrating a larger, built-in refrigerator and freezer, the kitchen gained significant storage while maintaining a clean appearance. A custom hood with a unique finish, pop-up outlets to keep the counters free of clutter, and a unique slab backsplash all contributed to the aesthetic. We opted to not use crown molding, aligning the cabinets with the ceiling height to emphasize the simplicity and modernization the client desired, resulting in a space that is perfect for entertaining and everyday family life.
The Challenge
The client’s previous glazed cabinetry, while beautiful, had become dated over time. She was excited for an updated look but was also very concerned not to select a “trend” that would go out of style too soon. The decision to eliminate the crown molding required careful attention to ceiling heights, floor alignment, and cabinetry design to ensure a flawless look without room for error. The need for pop-up outlets instead of standard ones added complexity, as did the decision to use a seamless backsplash behind the custom hood.
The Result
The final result is a beautifully updated kitchen with Quarter-Sawn Oak Riverbed color cabinetry, a full-height backsplash that runs seamlessly behind the custom hood, and pop-up outlets that keep the walls and countertops clutter-free. We redesigned the wall that housed the refrigerator to incorporate a full, glass-door fridge and full freezer flanked by floor-to-ceiling cabinets. The island serves as a functional workspace and gathering spot, hiding the neatly tucked chairs with a waterfall overhang. The lack of crown molding accentuates the design’s clean lines, creating a sophisticated yet inviting kitchen that balances aesthetics with practicality. The client’s fireplace was also updated to match the sleek style of the kitchen, further enhancing the overall flow of the home’s design.
In the end, this remodel transformed a dated kitchen into a modern, functional, and timeless space that perfectly reflects the client’s vision.
