Designed by Courtney Collins, this kitchen remodel blends functionality with preserving mid-century charm. The original space was cramped, with low ceilings and poor flow, making it difficult for a growing family to use the kitchen efficiently. The vision was to create a space that met the family’s needs and honored the home’s original architectural style. Through thoughtful design and custom cabinetry, the kitchen was transformed into a modern, functional, and aesthetic space that complements the home’s mid-century character.
The Challenge
This project required extensive revisions and deliberation before finalizing the job. The process required careful consideration of every detail to ensure the kitchen would meet the family’s needs for years, which required an extended planning period. The original space had a cramped feel, with a low ceiling and poor flow due to the peninsula layout. Maximizing the space while maintaining the integrity of the mid-century style presented further design challenges.
The Result
The remodel successfully transformed the kitchen into a spacious, functional area that flows seamlessly with the rest of the home. Key custom features, such as a custom oven cabinet with spice pullout storage and a false-drawer pantry, improved storage while adding symmetry and design coherence. Vaulting the ceiling and adding skylights opened up the space, enhancing the natural light and overall atmosphere.
The result is a kitchen that serves the family’s needs and enhances the home’s mid-century modern appeal with a timeless, thoughtful design.
